about

‘My Beautiful Girl Harbour’ is The Summertimes’ third single off their critically acclaimed debut album. A paean to Sydney’s water and light, the song’s lush layers could be the sonic equivalent to a Brett Whiteley painting -- all the while reminding us to slow down and take everything in. A punchy rhythm section, big melodic choruses and tight harmonies are complemented by a gorgeous acoustic guitar solo. It features some of Australia's finest musicians, including drummer Steve O’Brien (Tumbleweed), bassist Steve Bull (Icehouse), and guitarist Ash Naylor (EVEN, The Church and Paul Kelly). Five-time ARIA-award winner Paul McKercher engineered and produced.

Critics from the USA, UK and Australia have been unanimous in their praise:

Bernard Zuel (Australia): ‘My Beautiful Girl Harbour’ snaps to attention with a splash of guitars and drums, immediately hums in its backing vocals and brings forth a late acoustic guitar solo, then crushes resistance with a (delayed) chorus that is both sugared and yearning.

Backseat Mafia (UK): This is a soaring track … a chorus that oohs and aahs with the sort of layered harmonies that would make REM proud.

The Big Takeover (USA): ‘My Beautiful Girl Harbour’ hits the Beatles-y alternative rock sweet spot perfected by ’90s legends like Teenage Fanclub and The Lemonheads.

Power Popaholic (USA): The melodic chorus of ‘My Beautiful Girl Harbour’ makes [it an] instant classic.

Faster and Louder (USA): A love song to the city of Sydney, it could slide seamlessly into a Teenage Fanclub playlist.

Power Pop News (USA): ‘My Beautiful Girl Harbour’ is an earworm. The guitars chime as its melody sweeps the listener away to a faraway place.

Off Shelf (USA): (The song) expands into a dreamy guitar solo and an ooh-ooh ahh-ahh chorus that lifts a weary soul.

I Don’t Hear a Single (UK): The track is top-notch modern jangle pop.
